This summer we are excited to teach the arts online using tablets that we are distributing to students. Along with the tablets we will be using a group of apps that all work together in Google Classroom. (Classes may also be accessed on laptops or phones if there is a steady internet connection.)
Each student will be assigned their own unique email for our domain – theGlosterProject.org. When the student is signed into their tablet with their unique gmail account, they should then have access to the other apps.
On the tablet the apps will appear individually like this:
On the laptop they will appear like this:
Here are what the apps do:
Google Classroom – Teachers will put assignments, homework, and other items such as videos and pictures into the sections in Google Classroom. Students can always check to see what is inside even when they are not in class. Students can also post/upload their own work.
Google Calendar – All of the classes and events the Gloster Arts Project is doing should appear on the calendar. Checking the calendar is one way of being sure of the schedule and the times, in case it’s hard to keep track of everything. We know this is all new and is a lot of information, but the calendar is one place to look if you have questions about schedules.
Google Meet – Meet is where all of the live video classes will take place. When the student is alerted their class is about to begin, they simply open the app and then they will see the students and the teacher. The controls will take a little bit of getting used to, but basically each student can turn on and off their microphone and camera. It is also possible to just listen in on the class if video is not working.
Some people may have a bad connection and sometimes restarting the tablet or computer will help.
The teachers will explain basic guidelines for the classes and that may include having the students turn off their microphones
Classes the students are enrolled in will look like this on the Kindle. Once a student is inside the virtual classroom then they will be able to see any links, images or video the teacher has put in there.
